I was a pretty decent flutist in high school and in my early college years. Alas, piano and voice became higher priorities as the years rolled by. The flute remains very dear to me, and I still play once in awhile.  One of my favorite pieces to play is Debussy’s “Syrinx.” I composed this piece just after completing my bachelor’s degree. I wanted to try my hand at something ameter that, like “Syrinx,” would offer the performer a wide range of expressive and interpretive possibilities.  I love the idea that no two flute players will  perform this the same way.
